The Great Rann of Kutch is a seasonal salt marsh located in the Thar Desert in the Kutch District of Gujarat, India and the Sindh province of Pakistan. Organized by the Gujarat Tourism Department, Rann Utsav is a cultural extravaganza that takes place at various locations within Kutch in Gujarat, India. This year it will be celebrated on 6th December 2015 to 5th March 2016.

This Utsav or fair showcases traditional art forms of India. The fair celebrates the diversity and uniqueness of the Kutch district and highlights the cultural splendor of Gujarat. Held annually during the full moon time in winters, It is a landmark bestowing grace and elegance where the world gathers for more than 2 months. A riot of colour sprinkled on the barren lands, Rann Utsav offers visitors an excellent opportunity to experience the diverse traditions and the generosity and hospitality of Kutchi people.

Enjoying the shades of full moon with folk music and dance forms in chilling winters is an enchanting experience. On a full moon night during Rann Utsav, the region wakes to an endless cycle of dance, and where century old traditions are revived in a celebration.  A grand Tent City of 400 tents, consisting of both air- conditioned and non-air-conditioned tents, have been set up on the outskirt of bordering village of Dhorado in the Rann. This Mahotsava under the tutelage of Vibrant Gujarat has been a unique opportunity for people around the world to visit Kutch and experience the true flavor of the region.

Travel Information
You can travel to Kutch by taking a flight to Bhuj, the administrative city of Kutch. From there you can hire a taxi to Kutch. To explore Kutch at its best, it is best to travel by road. The wild and raw beauty of the region is simply amazing. There are a number of buses available from Ahmedabad to this place. You can also board the Kutch Express from Mumbai, via Ahmedabad and up to Gandhinagar. From there, you can reach your destination by road.
